Inclusive product testing of digital ticketing solutions

Product tests show how even small adjustments can significantly improve accessibilty for passengers with visual and cognitive disabilities in Switzerland.

Client: Swiss Federal Railways (SBB)

Need: To identify a practical and accessible replacement for physical ticket validation cards, with a focus on people with visual and cognitive disabilities.

Approach: We tested two digital prototypes with 10 participants from the target groups in two test rounds. Feedback was gathered in live and simulated settings and used to improve the design in close collaboration with the SBB UX and business teams.

Outcome: The tests revealed how even small design choices (animations, sounds) can significantly improve usability. The project showed that involving real users early leads to better, more trusted solutions, and uncovered concrete adjustments needed for broader rollout.

«The service was excellent – marked by a high degree of flexibility, clear commitment to a high-quality and valid implementation, and proactive, constructive communication at every stage.»

– Chatrina Casutt, Project Leader, SBB
