Inclusive research on digital barriers and inclusion needs

A survey on digital barriers and inclusion needs of people with disabilities in Switzerland reveals significant gaps and lays the groundwork for more inclusive digital policy.

Client: EEBGB - Federal Bureau for the Equality of People with Disabilities, in collaboration with the Canton of St. Gallen

Need: To better understand the unmet needs and everyday barriers people with disabilities face in the digital world, with the goal of informing future inclusion policies at both regional and national levels.

Approach: We conducted deep-dive focus groups with people from six disability groups to explore everyday barriers and unmet needs in the digital space. These insights now form the basis of a large-scale validation survey currently underway, covering key areas like transport, education, healthcare, finance and political participation.

Outcome (expected): The first findings have already been presented at the national E-Accessibility Forum and show clear gaps (e.g. missing subtitles, inaccessible payment terminals or overwhelming online processes). A final report will be published in 2025, laying the groundwork for more inclusive digital policy across Switzerland.

«The needs of people with disabilities in the digital space are still insufficiently researched and documented. Through its participatory approach, EnableMe Insights makes a significant contribution to promoting accessibility in the digital world.»
